The
Rain Gave In... But it Still Affected the Track!
When the rains stopped... The promoters
busted tail to get the races in. As many other tracks sat under
water! The Speedzone's drainage system came through.
Promoters were facing a track that was to wet the last time they
raced. Which was then followed by nearly 11 days of
rain. Facing a decision of calling the races off and sitting out
on a great night for racing. They opted for "The Show Must Go
On"... Anyone that has been around dirt track racing knows
your going to have nights with rough tracks, dusty tracks, & Great
fast tracks. The thing is, everyone faces the same track during
the race. As the old saying goes, "You have to finish the
race to Win!" Which means drivers must know the limits of
their cars. The race becomes a combination of many competitors... the
driver, his car, his opponents, & the track, all of which want to
win!
Drivers
that understand this golden rule... are likely to find themselves in
Victory Lane like Jay Schaufnagle #10 Mod did. Those that don't
understand it, will likely find themselves on the back of a hook on the
way to the pits. In the mod feature Jay held off veteran driver
Brian Drexler #8 for the win. Chris Engels #28 came in
third. The
Grand Nationals put on quite a show... Early on it looked as if Dan Wirl
# 84 was going to run away with the race, as he navigated the rough
track like a pro building a 5 or 6 car cushion between his next nearest
competitors. Then came the cautions... After the first caution Dan
held on and was building his cushion again! The 2nd caution gave
Brad Mueller #5m the edge allowing him to get by Dan for the win. Dan
held on for 2nd followed by Adam Pugh in the #71 and Tim
Doehling.
