Budweiser Shootout Was Just That, With Some Great Racing

It was a beautiful night for racing... Country USA was in town, but they only had a small effect on the Speedzone attendance.  After last weeks show, It was clear to see it was time for the track promoters and flagman to take back some control of the racing.  Driving was getting out of hand... with way to much banging, pushing, and driving out of control!  Flagman Mark Winters informed the drivers that he will no longer use the Black flag in the warning mode.  If he has to bring it out, someone is leaving the track.  This writer don't know if the drivers got the message or if it was the heavy track, but the driving was better, Mark only used the Back flag twice.  The racing program was slightly delayed, as extra time was needed for track packing.  After the packing, the street stocks took to the track.  It took some finesse to race in these early races as the track was still quite greasy.  It seemed as though Ross Loose's car liked the Greasy track as Ross made his first trip to victory lane this year.  It appeared that Adam Pugh #71's decision to pay a disciplinary fine to the points fund, instead of taking 2 weeks off, paid off for Adam. Adam won his heat race.  Race after race the track continued to improve.  By Feature time, I felt we had one of the best tracks of the season, breading fast racing on dust and some new faces in victory lane.  I apologize to the winners who won after my camera broke, as I was unable to capture their trip to Victory Lane.

The Budweiser Fastrak Late Models took to the track for the Feature with a field of 17 cars.  Tom Naeyaet #9 took the lead quickly.  It seemed that Dan Wanta #27 had something break, sending him for a ride down the front wall. After some hard racing, Dennis Schultz #39 over took Jeff Bodendorfer to take second with Jeff bringing home third place.

The Coors Light Modifieds started with a full field of 20 cars.  Only a few cautions flew compared to last weeks race. When it was all said and done, Brad Mcquire #53 pulled off the clean sweep winning his heat race and the feature.  Oshkosh's Brian Drexler #8 fought hard but just fell hundreds of a second short taking home second in front on Scott Mullen.

The Total Power Sales Street Stocks feature ran Green to Checkers with some great door to door racing.  it only took Jerry Winkler #2 a couple of laps to jump into the lead. Brian Drexler #8 pushed hard trying to catch Winkler but it was not to be, leaving Brian with a second.  Daniel Knaus #22 seemed to have hit his set up right for the heavy track. Daniel, brought her home in third, for one of his best finishes of the season!

The Miller Lite Grand Nationals started with 18 cars.  Brett Wenzel held off the charge of Adan Pugh #71 to bring home the win. Adam finished second just ahead of Scott Houpt in the #67.  Brian Henrys' night ended on the infield after a mishap on the front stretch.

Rounding out the night was the Lynn's Service Center, Dirt Devils.  Seventeen of these 4 cylinder wonders hit the track.  When it was in the books it was Tyler Lind in the #97 taking home the iron. Chris Quaintance # 98 nearly pulled off the clean sweep but had to settle for 2nd.  Dave Wilkins in the purple #222 had his car back in form after his spectacular roll over last week, Dave finished third this week instead of finishing on the hook...
