Charlie Ewald Steals the Show & The Hearts of Fans!

CitizensFirst Credit Union Driver & Member Appreciation Night unfolded History in the Zone.  Charlie Ewald # 7 of Omro took on the night like a rocket on rails, as others clinched track championships.  Charlie walked away with his heat race... fans were so happy to see Charlie in Victory Lane for the first time in Speedzone History. The last time Charlie won a race was in 1977 at the old Leo's Speedway in Oshkosh.  At 62 years young, there has been a lot of chatter coming from the Ewald camp of Charlie retiring from racing.  as Charlie left Victory Lane, I told him to listen to me good... and come back and see me after the Feature. He smiled, and said, wouldn't that be something?  Then came the feature. After the 10 or 11 car pile up was cleared, the green flag waved, and Charlie was off to the races like a rabbit being chased by a pack of Grayhounds. As the laps clicked off, fans started to realize no one had anything for Charlie, as he opened the gap, lap after lap. As the White flag flew, I looked into the stands to see nearly every fan on their feet cheering Charlie home for the win!  In Victory Lane for the second time in one night was emotional for many, as Charlie climbed to the roof of his car and did an Irish gig.  Fans who missed this night, really missed out on something memorable!

The Budweiser Fastrak Late Models ran a great races. As the checkers flew... Jim Zdroik #6 took the checkers, with your new Track champion Tom Naeyaert #9 taking second. AJ Miller #55 hung on for third.  When the cars got to the scales and post race inspection, the #6 was DQ'ed for a tire infraction, an appeal of the ruling has been made to Fastrak so the official results and driver payout is on hold until Fastrak makes an official ruling.

The Coors Light Modifieds started with a full field of 20 cars.  The race started with a huge 10 or car pile up in turn 4.  Most were able to continue, and the race went all the way to checkers after the mishap. Charlie Ewald #7 walked away with the win. Your 2007 points Champion Mike Mullen #70 trailed behind  Charlie for second, with Joey Jaeger hot on his heels for Third.

The Total Power Sales Street Stocks feature again provided some great racing. Brian Drexler and Jerry kope battled for the win, as Jerry Winkler just worked at staying out of trouble to seal his track championship. When the checkers dropped, it was Drexler edging out kope for the win. Tim Reichenberger drove a hard race coming home in third to close out his points chase.

The Miller Lite Grand Nationals had a close points race going for the championship. Tim Doelhing #5 took the feature win, however it still left him 9 points away from your New Track Champion Jeff Richards #10  Nick Schumacher #47 grabbed second, just ahead of Daniel Schumacher won took third.

The Lynn's Service Center Dirt Devils finished up with your New Track Champion Chad Guyette #33 taking the win, with Mark Krause #h2o taking second.  Dave Wilkins, in the Purple 222 came home in third.

On behalf of Jeff, Larry, myself, and all the track workers... We want to say, Thank You! to all who came to play in our sandbox this year.  Everyone knows there is always room for improvement in life, and we at the Speedzone are committed to bringing you all an even better 2008 season!
