Fastest Show on Dirt, Turns into Messy Rain Out!

Mother Nature takes Speedzone Promoters to the Prom!  Leading up to the "Fastest Show on Dirt" everyone was excited for this great night of racing. But, with every weatherman in the state calling for rain days before the show... They managed to scare away many of the most diehard fans. The house was full with some of the best Sprint Car racers in the world in attendance... We had Brook Tatnell from Australia,  Wayne Johnson from Oklahoma,  Ricky Logan from Little Rock, these professional racers were ready for a shootout at the zone!  With a Regional National Qualifying Fastrak Late Models show as the support division it could have been one of the best shows of the year.  When the Speedzone Promoters were told that the IRA Sprints & Vintage Mods would not be able to make the Rain Date on Sunday, and the rain was baring down on the zone.  Promoters made a great decision!  They announced they would be giving a full refund to fans in the grandstands! Even knowing they were still under contract to put on the Late model show on Sunday... They Stood up and did the right thing for the fans. A class act in this writers opinion.  When Sunday rolled around, the fans that came out after the packer game seen some great racing!

There was only 2 heats and a 50 lap feature... The track was quite heavy. After the heats the drivers needed time to get the cars ready for the 50 lap feature so we gave them all the time they needed.  While officials and the fans waited for the big event.  The fans that were there had a chance to see the "World Famous Wheelie Bus!"  When the Green flag flew Jeff Curtin in the #11 jumped out into the lead... One lap 2 we had the first and only caution.  On the restart Curtin again took off like a shot. He was running clean smooth laps and was pulling away.  But, back in the pack Justin Hurt in the #27 was working his way to the front. One by One he picked off cars as he moved to the front. Curtin held on for as long as he could.  When Justin finely went by Curtin coming out of turn Two... Justin walked away from the field.  It wasn't long and he was darting through lapped traffic, this was still not enough for the rest to catch Justin.  When the Checkers waved Justin took the win and he was followed by Speedzone Track Champion, Tom Naeyaert in the #9, the rest finished the race as follows:

3. Jeff Curtin, 4. Troy Springborn, 5. Scott Lewis, 6. Dennis Schultz, 7. Dan Wanta, 8. Jeff Bodendorfer, 9. Michael Stangl, 10. Todd Jensema, 11. Joseph Teuter, 12. Cody Grosskoft, 13. Jay Crichton, 14. Bob Schmidt, 15. Craig Bartz, 16. Joel Bennett, 17. Jim Zdroik, 18. Dave Fieber.

The Speedzone would like to say Thank You! to all that have e-mailed us to thank us for our efforts in turning a bad situation into a good night of racing.
