Despite High School graduation's being postponed Thursday,
and rescheduled for Friday... Loyal Speedzone Fans flocked to
the Zone to see the first on Two IRA Sprint Car shows this
year! The weather was picture perfect for a night of
racing too.
Brian Drexler (#8D) and John Schultz
(#37S) finished one two in the Coors Light Modified's Friday
night at the Oshkosh Speed Zone Raceway. Drexler was moving up
from his fourth place start when Rick Robbins (#26R) spread
oil from his blown engine all around turn one on lap three.
This put Drexler in third behind Chad Bartle (#81B) and Mike
Mullen (#70). Drexler blasted around both cars at the halfway
point and Schultz hung around in forth until lap 16
when he passed both cars and stayed in second until the
checkers. This hard fought battle gave Brian Drexler his
first ever Feature Win at the Oshkosh Speedzone!
The Interstate Racing Association Outlaw
Sprints Opened the show with John Haeni (#21J)
setting fast
time of 13.305 seconds around the one-third mile SpeedZone
oval. Mike Reinke (#02) was second with 13.345 and Todd King
(97) was third fastest time trailer.
The Total Power Sales Street Stocks
started the racing with Jeff Jahnke (#02) and Mark Schultz
(#70S) 1, 2 in heat one. Jerry Winkler (#2W) and Scott Solomon
(#33S) were one two in heat two while Jeff Jungwirth (#12J)
and Jerry Kope (#4K) were one two in heat three.
Ross Losse (#65L), Greg Stephens (#71S),
Shawn Haydon (#00H), Scott Besaw (#14B) and Gawaresky (#18G)
transferred from the Street Stock B-Main to the feature race.
Modified heats 1 thru 4 were won by Chris
Engels (#29E), Brian Drexler (#8D), Mike Mullen (#70) and
Aaron Rake (#02R) respectively.
First sprint heat was lead from the green
by Ty Bartz (#75) but spun out on the last lap giving the win
to Scott Biertzer (#4B).
Second heat was won by Steve Meyer (#85M)
flag to flag and Mike Kertcher (#80K) took the third heat
leading from lap two.
The full house crowd appreciated the
strong card and stayed until the last flag dropped on Travis
Whitney (#9) after thirty laps of very fast racing. The 50/50
raffle was $432 to the lucky fan and the same to the IRA
points fund. In addition to the Sprints the Legend
Modified’s will put on an exhibition race. The Legends are
restored cars from yesteryear and put on a show a reminder of
past racing. The IRA
Sprints were here after a successful run at Charter Raceway
Park in Beaver Dam and will move on to Wilmot Speedway,
Wilmot, WI Saturday. BY
