LEGENDS
HONORED ON SPECIAL TUESDAY NIGHT.
By Dave Buss
On a perfect night for racing the Oshkosh Speedzone Raceway
welcomed
the first four members to the Walk of Fame. JJ Smith, David
Conger, Roger
Regeth and Leo Galicia were the well deserving individuals to
become
permanently recognized at the Raceway. On the track four
drivers also
permanently put their name in the record books picking up
feature wins.
The Miller Lite Grand Nationals feature event led things off
and it
turned into a battle of brothers. Will and Nick Schumacher
would pace the
field throughout the feature event with Adam Pugh taking a
couple of
laps to break up the family reunion. Will Schumacher led early
and looked
strong until a six car pile up brought out the caution. The
restart
would prove to be his demise as Nick Schumacher took advantage
and
grabbed the lead. A few laps later Pugh would find trouble and
spin bringing
the caution out once again. Will Schumacher would also begin
to fade
late in the event. With the time limit fast approaching the
field had one
more shot at Nick but to no avail. Nick Schumacher grabbed the
win
with Brian Henry grabbing second after charging forward from a
starting
position near the back. The top five would be rounded out by
Jason Fish,
Teske and Larry Richards.
The Modified Feature would end in a one lap shoot out as a
caution
filled event brought time into play again. Ben Brinkman would
not be denied
though with steady restarts throughout the event after
grabbing the
point from John Schultz. Jerry Wilinski and Mike Klentz would
provide
great entertainment for the fans as they battled it out for
second
throughout the final laps with Wilinski grabbing second. Brian
Drexler would
also make a late charge to grab third from Klentz. Points
leader Jay
Schraufnagel would round out the top five.
The Total Power Sales Street Stock division would see Patty
Winkler
grab an early lead and hold onto that position throughout the
first 12
laps. On Lap 12 Mark
Schultz used the low groove the slide past Winkler
and power to the lead. Winkler would not be able to get back
into the
preferred groove and would see herself slip back to the pack
as Brian
Drexler got past for the second spot. Tim Reichenberger and
Andy Gross
would also move past Winkler to grab the third and fourth
spots
respectively. Meanwhile, up front it would be all Schultz as
he would go on to
grab the win. Winkler would hold on to finish fifth.
The Lynn Service Center Dirt Devils would briefly take the
track for
their feature. Up against curfew the Dirt Devils would need to
run a
clean race. Unfortunately for Points Leader Brian Vinney that
would not be
the case as on lap 2 Vinney would go for a spectacular ride
between
corners three and four. Vinney would flip multiple times
before coming to
a rest on the track. The Red Flag would bring action to a halt
as
safety crews tended to the uninjured Vinney. However, curfew
would take
effect and the race would be called complete. Steve Seehawer
would pick up
the win with Aubyn Vogel finishing second.
