Funnel Cakes and

Dave Buss
Racing returned for its final Tuesday night event of the year
at the Oshkosh Speedzone Raceway to kick off the Winnebago
County Fair. The weather was perfect and the crowd was strong
as the roar of racecars and the sound of the midway combined.
The Grand Nationals would take the track in what would turn
out to be a caution filled event. Jerry Kope would show the
way early on and maintain that position until Brian Monday
took things three wide down the backstretch and enter corner
three in the lead. Monday would hold the lead ever so briefly
until Will Schumacher wrestled it away. Schumacher would hold
the lead until a caution on lap eight opened the door for
Terry Van Roy. Van Roy would grab the lead when the race
resumed and hold off a hard charging Tim Doehling for the win.
Jestin Danes would grab third with Schumacher and Don
Schumacher rounding out the top five.
Repeating the trend set by the Grand Nationals, the Modifieds
would also see their feature event slowed by caution
throughout. John Schultz would look like the car to beat
throughout the first half of the race until the eventual
winner Mike Klenz got around him on lap eleven. Klenz would
soon find Jay Schraufnagel, who started at the rear of the
field, on his rear bumper with five laps to go. Schraufnagel
would try for lead on lap sixteen to no avail, losing momentum
and second place to Brad Bricco. Klenz woud pick up the win
with Bricco, Schraufnagel, Ben Brinkman and Jamie Schmidt in
tow.
The Total Power Sales Street Stocks feature event would run a
lot more smoothly with Jeff Jungwirth maintaining the lead
until Tim Reichenberger grabbed it away on lap ten.
Reichenberger would continue his lead while Brian Drexler and
Jerry Kope fought it out for second behind him. Drexler would
dispose of Kope on lap seventeen and set his sights on
Reichenberger. With the white flag flying Drexler made his
final assault but it would be Reichenberger at the line by
half a car length to pick up the exciting win. Drexler would
grab second with Kope third, Steve Gawarsky finished fourth
and Jungwirth settled for fifth.
The Lynn’s Service Center Dirt Devils feature can simply be
classified as the Tim Sheppard show. Sheppard grabbed the lead
on lap number two and drove to as much as a seven second lead
over second place. While Sheppard cruised to victory the cars
of Nick Furman, Kathy Pierrard, Tyler Lind and Mark Krause
eached settled into postions two through five and also cruised
to their respective finishes.
The Fastrak Late Models feature went twelve laps with four
cars competing. Scott Lewis, picked up the win with Brett
Swedberg second, Ron Paulick third and Steve Doehling fourth.
