Oshkosh, WI, April 24, 2012: In less than two weeks, the 2012 racing season at Oshkosh Speedzone Raceway will get underway and before the first green flag falls 54 drivers are tied atop the standings.
Drivers who filed their information forms before the deadline of April 22nd were awarded 5 bonus points towards the 2012 championship. The highest number of forms presented occurred in the Modified class where 20 competitors are officially tied for the lead.
Oshkosh Speedzone does this bonus program to easy the registration load on opening night and it has proven successful over the past several seasons.
Anticipation will continue to build toward the May 4th opening night program presented by WXMM 92.9FM Country Radio. Drivers have one more opportunity to hit the track before the season officially gets underway as the final pre-season practice will take place this Saturday afternoon April 28th on the third-mile clay oval. Fans are encouraged to come see the action from the grandstand with FREE admission.
Pit gates will open at 11:00am. With practice running from Noon until 4:00pm. Last week, during the first pre-season practice, nearly 60 drivers took to the track to shake down their rides. The track proved very racy throughout the entire practice session. Pit admission for this week's practice session is again set at $15.
Fans can expect to witness cars in each of the five weekly classes including the Automotive Supply Company Modifieds, Miller Lite Grand Nationals, Leon's Frozen Custard IMCA Northern Sport Modifieds, Total Power Sales Street Stocks and Lynn's Service Center Dirt Devils.
Last week several Late Models were also on hand testing for the WDLMA event to be held in conjunction with the Badger Modified Tour on Tuesday Night, August 21st. The Leon's Frozen Custard IMCA Northern Sport Modifieds are also on the program which will be presented by Hansel Trucking.
Oshkosh Speedzone Raceway is a 1/3 mile semi-banked clay oval located at the Sunnyview Expo Center which resides near the intersection of Highways 76 and County Trunk Y in Oshkosh. Weekly racing Friday Night racing continues until September.
