B-104 Presents This Weeks Action at Oshkosh Speedzone!
Oshkosh, WI, June 26, 2013 – The summer has arrived and the racing action is heating up! This week B-104.7 the area's #1 Hit Radio station will be presenting the Friday Night show at Oshkosh Speedzone Raceway. All five weekly classes are back in action this week as several divisions had off last Friday Night with the appearance of the IRA Outlaw Sprints.
Making their appearance after a week off are the tracks fast and furious fendered divisions including the Outlaw Chassis Grand Nationals, Total Power Sales Street Stocks and Ellington Mutual Insurance Dirt Devils.
The other two divisions the Automotive Supply Company IMCA Modifieds and the Hansel Trucking IMCA Northern Sport Modifieds look earn some redemption from some shortened feature contests last week.
Kelsey Hayes scored her second career feature win in the Sport Modifieds in a race that will be best known for a major fire which erupted in Mark Howe's machine in the feature contest. Howe was unhurt in the incident and his ride should be repaired for a return to action this week. The race was called after the incident and Hayes who had worked into the lead was declared the winner.
Hayes currently sits second in the season standings as the young lady tries to catch veteran racer Todd Wiese who heads up the standings by a 255 to 229 point margin.
The Modified division will be looking to show fans their capability as the talented field which usually presents non stop green to checkered flag main event was unsettled last week. Multiple cautions forced the feature past curfew and resulted in the racing being declared complete prior to the halfway point. All drivers were awarded equal points and money.
Division rookie Troy Jerovetz continues to lead his cousin Sean in the season standings by a mere three points. Both drivers have already chalked up feature wins this season and their battle to the championship will likely need to see additional victories to reach the title in a highly competitive field. Johnny Whitman currently sits third some 12 markers back from the lead.
The Grand National division currently shows four drivers within ten points of the top spot as the championship chase is extremely tight. Former division champ Larry Richards has clawed his way to the top spot with two main event wins under his belt. Terry Van Roy whose racing ventures have included titles on both dirt and asphalt surfaces is only four markers out of the top spot. Jeff Richards and defending division champ Brian Henry are also within striking distance.
Another former champ Jerry Kope is solidly in the top spot in Street Stock action hikding a 13 point gap of 2012 champ Richard Garb. The pair have begun to separate themselves from the field in the point chase hoping to settle the title between themselves.
A resurgence in popularity of the entry level Dirt Devil division has resulted in an extremely close point battle as last years point runner-up Mike Montie is showing the way by a mere two points over Kasey Gross. Ralph Liegeois Jr. and Jason Fairbank who are third and fourth respectively are within 10 points of Montie in the title chase.
Racing action is set to get underway this Friday evening at 7:00pm with a full program of heats, consolations and feature events. Over 100 cars are expected to participate in the program with over 50 modifieds between the two IMCA sanctioned mod classes.
