George Scheffler Memorial Race / Hales Corner Reunion August 23, 2013

OSHKOSH, WI – The management and staff of the Oshkosh Speedzone are proud to announce the addition of the George Scheffler Memorial Race / Hales Corner Reunion to be held on August 23, 2013.

On April 30, 2010 George Scheffler was killed in an ATV accident in Northern Wisconsin at the age of 65. George had raced for 38 years and was a past champion. Following his death his family decided to carry on his passion for the sport of auto racing by creating an event showcasing late models! To do this the family had the idea of holding a memorial race for him, for 10 years (in honor of George’s race car #) with an increasing payout each year. After talking with Bill Behling, the family and Bill decided to combine the George Scheffler memorial and the already popular Hales Corner Reunion Night into one night of great racing, and remembering the awesome days of Hales Corners and those heroes. This has become quite a featured race! In addition to the late model race that night features a Hale’s Heroes Race with the stars of yesterday, driving today’s late models. We try to create fan involvement by doing Hales Corners trivia during the night.

The first year’s race would find George’s youngest son, Rick Scheffler in victory lane to claim the $2000. Rick and his brother then donated their winnings back to the race fund for the following year. The second year a packed stands would witness some great racing featuring two b-mains and several heat races and when the dust would settle Nick Anvelink would be in the winner’s circle and take home the $3000 prize. The third year "the iceman" Jimmy Mars would run the show, and take $4000 grand prize.

The family decided to move the show due to the fact it was starting to outgrow the original venue. They had looked at several locations and ended up selecting the Speedzone, "Wisconsin Action Modified Track". 2013's race is expecting over 50 Late Models. Also on the nights race schedule you will see IMCA style Modifieds with a $1000.00 up for grabs. 2012's average car count for the Modifieds was one of the highest in the country with just around 38 cars each night. Time trials will be slated for qualifying both divisions. This year's grand prize will be $5000.00 and increasing each year by $1000.00 to a final of $10,000.00 for the Late Models. 2013's George Scheffler Memorial race could see over 100 cars in 2 divisions said track promoter Larry Stratton, we are just excited to get the chance to have this great show.

The Speedzone is located at 460 E. County Rd Y on the Sunnyview Expo Center/Fairgrounds
just off of Highway 76 and 41.
