Speedzone 2013 schedule places emphasis on variety!

20 Races Showcased on Schedule

Oshkosh, WI, February 24, 2013 – Racing fans looking for a little variety to satisfy their “need for speed”, need look no further than Oshkosh Speedzone Raceway. Presenting an ambitious 20 event schedule for 2013, this season’s events include a pair of Saturday specials, the addition of a high-profile Late Model race, and a continuation of great open wheeled racing events along with a strong weekly program featuring some of the toughest Modified action in the Midwest and beyond.

For the first time Oshkosh Speedzone will open its racing season with a special event. The first green flag of the 2013 season will fly on Saturday night April 20th with a program featuring the finest Sprint Car drivers in the Midwest. The Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprints will highlight the program with their 410 cubic inch machines which put out nearly 900 horsepower. The cars are the fastest race vehicles to be seen on dirt each season at the Speedzone. Joining the IRA Outlaw Sprints for the first time ever in the same program at Oshkosh will be the MSA 360 Sprints which will feature the top drivers from the weekly Sprint car programs at Manitowoc and Plymouth. Rounding out the show will be non-point Street Stock events featuring cars from all the area tracks. The IRA Sprints will return for a second show on Friday Night June 21st.

Weekly Friday Night point championship racing is set to get underway on Friday Night April 26th. All totaled there will be a “Lucky 13” Friday night point events with the weekly point chase ending on Friday Night August 30th. The championship chase will feature Automotive Supply Company IMCA Modifieds, Hansel Trucking IMCA Northern Sport Modifieds, Miller Lite Grand Nationals, Total Power Sales Street Stocks and Lynn’s Service Center Dirt Devils. The 2013 season will mark the first time since the opening years of the track that the top class has been IMCA sanctioned. All evening race programs held throughout the year will see pit gates open at 4:00pm, while grandstand areas open at 5:00pm. Racing begins promptly at 7:00pm.

In addition a pair of Tuesday Night events will also count toward the 2013 season titles. Those races will take place on Tuesday Night July 23rd with the tracks annual “Walk of Fame” Night featuring throwback pricing. The second Tuesday night point program will be held during the running of the Winnebago County Fair on August 6th.

The popular Badger Modified Tour in its sophomore season as a series will see an event hosted at the track on Friday Night July 19th. The all Modified program will also see the Hansel Trucking IMCA Northern Sport Modifieds participate in the program.

Late Model fans will be thrilled to see the addition of the George Scheffler Memorial Race / Hales Corners Reunion Night making a move to Oshkosh Speedzone for an event on Friday Night August 23rd. The George Scheffler Memorial race has become one of the most anticipated Late Model programs in the state of Wisconsin and it's inclusion in the 2013 schedule at Oshkosh Speedzone is a great addition to an exciting schedule of events planned for the year. The race program will also feature a $1,000 to win Modified main event.

The 2013 season will conclude on Saturday September 7th with the running of the Citizen’s First Fall Classic. The show will be a one day event for the first time in its history and will feature 6 divisions of cars with IMCA Type Modifieds, Stock Cars and Sport Modifieds, plus Grand Nationals, Street Stocks and 4 Cylinders. Sunday September 8th will be used as a rain date.

In addition to the racing events, five Tuesday evening practice sessions will take place throughout the year beginning May 7th. Two additional Test and Tune sessions will take place prior to the point season on Saturday Afternoon April 13th and Sunday April 21st, giving drivers and teams a total of seven opportunities to shake down their rides on non-race nights.

Before the cars hit the track fans will have a chance to see the 2013 rides up close and personal as Lowe’s of Oshkosh, located just three miles south of the raceway, will again host the pre-season car show on Saturday Afternoon April 6th.
