Summer of Thunder - 2012 Speedzone Schedule Set

Oshkosh, WI, February 13, 2012: If you enjoy dirt track racing, Oshkosh Speedzone Raceway's "Summer of Thunder" will satisfy any race fans need for speed with a full slate of weekly racing events, spiced up with a handful of specials and full smorgasbord of different classes appearing on the 1/3 mile clay oval. You won't go hungry if thrilling racing action fills you appetite.

The main course on the 2012 season schedule will be the weekly Friday Night racing program. Beginning on May 4th the first of 15 Friday Night races will take place featuring five divisions of racing action.

Automotive Supply Company Modifieds, Miller Lite Grand Nationals, Leon's Frozen Custard IMCA Northern Sport Modifieds, Total Power Sales Street Stocks and Lynn's Service Center Dirt Devils will all take to the track as part of the weekly season long points chase. Nearly 120 cars are expected nightly in the pit area.

All five divisions will be in action on 13 of the 15 Friday Night programs.

The other two Friday Night shows are special events featuring the 800 horsepower IRA Outlaw Sprints. The weekly classes will be shared between the two shows. The first Budweiser IRA Sprint Special will be held on Friday Night June 22nd and have both the Automotive Supply Company Modifieds, and IMCA Northern Sport Modifieds on hand. The second Budweiser IRA Sprint Special will take place on Friday Night August 24th. For that event the Miller Lite Grand Nationals, Total Power Sales Street Stocks and Lynn's Service Center Dirt Devils will join the IRA Sprints on the program.

On the schedule there are currently a pair of Tuesday Nights events, while a third Tuesday night is still a possibility during the fair.

The first Tuesday event on the schedule is the annual "Walk of Fame" Night. Each season several drivers from the historic Leo's Speedway are inducted into the Walk of fame representing racing's top drivers from the era. A full point program with all five divisions will gather for this special night. Fans are treated to throwback pricing with $5.00 grandstand admission, along with $1.00 tap beer, $1.00 soda and $1.00 hot dogs.

Including the Walk of Fame Night, the IRA Sprint Specials and the weekly race program, a total of 16 nights will count toward the track championship in the five weekly divisions.

New for 2012 will be a second Tuesday Night special. Hansel Trucking will present the WDLMA Late Models in their lone appearance of the season. The fastest fendered cars in the state will be appearing on Tuesday Night August 21st. Joining the WDLMA Late Models will be the debut of the Badger Modified Tour at the Oshkosh Speedzone Raceway. The finest Modified drivers from the upper Midwest will challenge top local favorites for bragging rights as winner of the inaugural Badger Modified feature winner at The Zone. Rounding out the program will be the IMCA Sport Modified division.

For fans wanting to take in two evenings of racing comprising the fastest cars in the state two special "Need For Speed Week" will offer fans a chance to see the fastest cars in the state appear just three days apart. The Tuesday Night Hansel Trucking WDLMA Late Model/Badger Modified Special on August 21st and final appearance of 2012 for the IRA Outlaw Sprints on Friday Night August 24th. The IRA Sprints are regarded as the fastest open wheels cars in the Midwest, while the WDLMA Late Models are the quickest full bodied cars in the state of Wisconsin.

The final point program of the 2012 season will take place on Friday Night August 31st.

The last event of the 2012 season will be the Speedzone Fall Classic where last season nearly 175 cars participated in the event. An even larger field is expected to take to the track this season with the addition of the IMCA type Stock Cars making for six classes of racing during the two day show which takes place on Friday Night September 7th and Saturday night September 8th. Also on hand will by the IMCA type Modifieds, IMCA type Northern Sport Modifieds, Grand Nationals, Street Stocks and 4 Cylinders.

In addition to the 18 scheduled racing events, the track will be open for 7 practice sessions. These session will take place during the season on Tuesday Nights May 8th, May 22nd, June 5th and June 19th. The other two practice sessions take place prior to the first race of the season. Those practice sessions will take place on Saturday April 21st and Saturday April 28th. A final practice session takes place prior to the Speedzone Fall Classic, that practice will be on Tuesday night September 4th.
