$1,000 to Win Mod Special On Tap and Grand Nationals to appear at prestigious event!
Oshkosh, WI, August 21, 2013 – The fastest fendered cars on clay are making a visit to Oshkosh Speedzone Raceway this Friday evening.
The stars of the WDLMA Late Models will be competing in the prestigious 4th annual George Scheffler Memorial race.
The event will mark the first time the tribute race has been held at Oshkosh Speedzone as the previous three events were held at the Manitowoc County Expo. Though both tracks at third-mile clay ovals, the event at Oshkosh Speedzone is highly anticipated since many of the drivers competing in this special have limited knowledge of the Speedzone racing surface.
The race will mark the only appearance for Late Models at the track this season.
This will create a level playing field for the over 40 drivers expected to participate in the show which will establish a new record for entries for the memorial event. The current mark was 39 entries which participated in both the 2011 and 2012 shows.
The George Scheffler Memorial race will be unique, with qualifying taking place to help set the field for the evening rather than the usual draw/redraw format.
The main event will pay $5,000 to win which will draw drivers from throughout the Midwest. Rick Scheffler captured the first annual event, with Nick Anvelink and Jimmy Mars becoming winners in the past two races.
In addition to the WDLMA Late Models the tracks own Automotive Supply Company IMCA Modifieds will participate in a full point program. The Modifieds will be chasing the $1000.00 to win purse plus IMCA has said that this will be a qualifying race for the 2014 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. The Modifieds will do a draw / redraw for this event.
Currently the point race in the division shows cousins Troy and Sean Jerovetz tied atop the standings with only two point nights remaining. Marcus Yarie is the only other driver with a realistic shot at the title, but to get within striking range it would take a win by Yarie and both Jerovetz family members would have to suffer a DNF.
Also recently added to the program is the Grand National division. Since no other track will be running this class on Friday night a good field of cars are expected to participate in the show. Grand National style cars were a regular division of the weekly racing program at Hales Corners Speedway which closed some years ago. Many former Hales Corners racers have gravitated to the class and as such this division is a very important part of the Hales Corners Reunion also taking place during the evening.
The Grand Nationals show will not be a point night and will have a draw/redraw format.
Pit gates will open at 4:00pm with hot laps and qualifying starting at 6:15pm and racing scheduled to start at 7:00pm.
Pit passes will be $30.00 for this event with no transponder rental fee required. Late Models will also have an entry fee of $40.00.
Grandstands will open at 5:00 PM. Ticket prices are as follows, Adults $15.00 students ages 11-15 are admitted for $10.00 and children 10 and under will be free with a paid adult.
