Third show of 2013 season lost to unmanageable racing surface!
Oshkosh, WI, May 10, 2013 – It was a good effort, but effort alone was not enough to overcome the nearly two inches of rain which fell in the 24 hours before the start of the planned CitizensFirst Night at the races at Oshkosh Speedzone Raceway. The May 10th show was the third so far this season to fall to weather. Simply put, Mother Nature needs to cooperate to begin the 2013 racing season in earnest. For fans and drivers that cooperation would be appreciated sooner….. rather than later.
With track preparation equipment getting stuck in the muck mere hours before the planned events it soon became obvious to track officials that the show wasn’t going to take place. “Our equipment was getting stuck on the track. The surface was just too soft to work in. If the sun had come out in the morning we may have had a chance but with the way things played out we really didn’t have a chance to get the track prepared”, noted Oshkosh Speedzone Raceway promoter Jeff Lemiesz. “As frustrating as this is there is still many nights of racing left and we have some great events still to come this season”, stated Lemiesz
“You can sense the frustration among our fans and some drivers. They want the racing season to begin”, stated track publicist Jeffrey Sachse. “Some believe that tracks in the area are wanting to cancel shows at the first sign of bad weather, but nothing could be further from the truth. When you only have 20 nights to make your business work NO ONE wants to cancel a race night. At Oshkosh you’ve got to consider that we’re approaching having canceled one-quarter of our racing season already and no one wants to do that”, exclaimed Sachse. “On the plus side when we do get back to racing you’re going to feel that pent up energy, everybody is ready for some racing action”!
In the only night held so far this season on April 26th the program took place with an overflowing pit area and one of the largest opening night crowds in years on hand as the Oshkosh Speedzone Raceway opened its 2013 season.
The Citizen’sFirst Night at The Races that had been planned for this past Friday have been rescheduled and has been combined with Kid’s Ride Along Night on May 24th. B-104 will also be on hand for the evening’s show. The Kid’s Ride Along is set to take place at 6:30pm. 30 minutes before the start of racing event set to get underway at 7:00pm.
This coming week on May 17th Total Power Sales will be presenting the show. A long time track supporter and sponsor of the Street Stock division Total Power Sales is the area’s leader in Lawn Care Equipment. The show will feature all five weekly divisions including the Automotive Supply Company IMCA Modifieds, Hansel Trucking IMCA Northern Sport Modifieds, Outlaw Chassis Grand Nationals, Total Power Sales Street Stocks and Ellington Mutual Insurance Dirt Devils.
Over 120 cars are expected to check into the pit area again this Friday Night. Racing is set to begin at 7:00pm, and the grandstands will be open at 5:00pm. Adult admission is just $10, with you admission for youngsters ages 11 through 15 just $5. Children are admitted FREE with a paid adult.
The “Lucky Crapper” will still make its debut this week. The “Lucky Crapper” is a non-functioning toilet next to the Panske Enterprises Souvenir stand beneath the grandstands at Oshkosh Speedzone Raceway. Donated by Dan Kelly Plumbing. It will be used to collect information requests and even a means to have area businesses announced on the public address system. Its purpose will grow as the season progresses.
In the next couple weeks several surveys will be made by the track to help improve marketing by polling fans about their interests in motorsports. The “Lucky Crapper” will be used to collect these surveys and several prizes will be awarded.
